K98 bolt won't close on 5th round

I have a K98 RC rifle that cycles (& shoots) the first four rounds without any issues, until i reach the fifth round. When I try to work the bolt it will not close on the last round, and will not eject. I have to tilt the rifle up so the round falls out of the chamber. But this issue only happens on the 5th round.

Has anyone had this issue? I tried searching the forum and the internet, but haven't been able to find anything on point.

What seems to be happening is on the last round as the bolt moves forward the round is not catching the bolt and locking in which is called "controlled feed" so it is now being pushed in front of the bolt instead of held by the extractor claw.
Once the round is pushed in to the chamber area the extractor is now against the wall and unable to get the rim of the case to be pushed inside the extractor claw.

That is what is happening but what I do not know (and someone with a higher pay grade will hopefully be along) is why.

Magazine spring? If you have a back up (and you should have spare parts) change that out then the follower as my next guess

Remember and RC is all mismatched parts (Though almost all work and after 100 or so K98ks 75% RC I never had this problem)

^^^ What Wulfmann says is my guess as well, with the bolt all the way back, out of battery, does the floor plate have a lot of "play" in it? It should be snug to the receiver. Sometimes you can "stretch" the follower spring a little if it will cooperate or a spare spring is not a costly item, I have more than a few if the need arises.

Thanks Wulfmann, mowzerluvr & plymouthmauser. That makes perfect sense that it could be the magazine spring or follower. I'll try checking the floor plate, and stretching the spring manually to increase tension. If that doesn't work I'll replace them. Also, thanks for the offer mowzerluvr.

I gotta say, this forum is a great resource.
