K98 value

Looking to pick up this K98 for 1,000$ and I had a couple questions. First the stock looked off to me and it looks like it's been force matched as well. What would be a fair price for this rifle and is there anything else I should be looking for? Sorry the photos aren't the best, the guy I'm getting it from isn't the best at taking photos.

Yeah, that's a humped special . For 1,000 or less you can find a legit RC russian capture, or get lucky with a bolt mix master, save your money

What stands out as to it being humped? Just from the extra cosmoline and forced matched flooplate. The stock also appearing to not have a bolt take down disc I was leaning towards it being a East German rework.

The front band the bolt ( looks like 2 numbers, there are almost always 4 for k98 cocking piece, your floor plate has been ground and re-stamped you can see grind marks, just walk away from it, something else better will come around

Not correct in this case. Judging by the look this isn't a hump, it is a post ww2 rework. If the swastika is removed very likely Eastern Block. Import mark is the same as seen on other East German guns

Need to see more to make an honest assessment. Kinda agree with Jake on this one, bolt numbering looks similar to what I've seen on post war reworks but there's just not enough to work with.

The gas shield having two digits is correct for a East German rework, other parts being ground/crossed out and restamped are also not uncommon to find on East German reworks. I'm willing to bet money it is a East German rework (DOU and DOT code receivers are not uncommon to see with the east Germans) of course more pictures help. Especially if there is any markings like a K and a box/rectangle beside it, in the wrist of the stock.

Another east German example.

not to pick nits, but that’s the gas shroud, not the cocking piece. despite the poor pics, one can see the numbering isn’t original.

For $1000, I’d insist on clear photos, otherwise no deal. that the critical left receiver shot is blurry, that’s suspicious, IMO.
