K98k Bayonet - Broken Tip - Possible Repair Question

Hi guys,

I have a nice matching bayonet. With a broken tip. I also have a non matching “beater” one, the tip is fine on that one.

Has anyone ever repaired a bayonet tip? Using another bayonet? Or, have a recommendation for someone that can?

Thanks for any thoughts,
-Danny

Yep, it can be fixed. I had a couple with tip issues. On both the tip was broken by about 3/8" to 1/2". The first one was also reshaped to compensate for the break. A buddy of mine TIG welded material to the end and I did the finish work with a file and stone. The first one could use a little more finish work. The S14 came out pretty decent.

Heck both of those look wicked good!

Maybe I can just try to make a new tip. I thought of that. Just not in my wheelhouse of knowledge.

Thanks for the pics and info!

What about the guy who can weld broken safeties? NH Micro Welding in Manchester or Hooksett, IIRC. Might be worth a call. @Dave Roberts has posted some of his work, top notch!

Easy to repair, however it will take the temper out at the repair. I suppose it could be heat treated again, but would affect the remainder of the bluing.

I personally would leave as is, the tip is more as 1cm broken off, by reshape it would look different the geometry of the front part. Its possible weld a part of steel to the tip as mentioned in previous answers.
