K98k S42 1937 I need some help!

I agree with mech, for $350 you got a fantastic buy. Even if not 100% perfect, I would have bought that instantly.

Oky
No, it's correct. It would have the last 2 digits on the right side and a e/63 on the left side as viewed from the front. Looks like some impact damage near the 31 but I could still make it out.
Thanks any thoughts on the safety missing its serial number, maybe a replacement?

It could be. Someone may ID it by its profile.
Well, it is wat it is, The gun went threw a hell of a time at some point, now I would like to get some good advice for maintenace when I get her..

I wont change anything on her,but I want some tips, I am very scared of rust due to her finish being of, and also should I oil the wood and such or just leave it.

It looks like the furniture has some lacquer? on it and so probably just a wipe with a cotton cloth? Take the metal out of the woodwork and use some oil/petro type solvent on a clean white cloth. Not sure what you have for 'brands' available. I like Kroil for initial rust treatment using white washcloth and if needed the Army type plastic 'toothbrush'. You'll see any rust if it's there on the cloth. I like Ballistol for the wipe down since it's a bit 'oilier' and is historically fairly correct.
