KS98 BAYONETS FROM THE COLONIES

Four KS98s from my collection , the leather version being the most common with about 20 000 being made (this is a matching erfurt bayonet/scabbard issued in DSWA dated to 1911) , followed by the wooden version with 10 000 being made (the colonial horster contract of 1913) , the harder to find "red rubber" handles with 2 100 being made (erfurt , dated to 1914) , and finally one of the original trails models for the wooden grips (erfurt , one of 250 made in 1912)

The horster bayonet is unmarked , but came in a colonial era scabbard marked POL Tr. hinting at its use in one of the politzeitruppe units in DOA / Togo perhaps (although collectors add items to bayonets so the link is tenuous at best)

Nice group of KS98s! Only have the one myself. Also, welcome to the Forum. You will find the Bayonet & Accessories sub-forum to be the best one out there in regards to German made or issued bayonets...

the success of the 1912 trials , of moving from leather to wood, led to contracts with horster from the colonial office , a 1913 horster

a relatively scarce ks98 with unvulcanised rubber handles specifically for the colonies , more common to see on the south african market as almost all 2100 made ended up in DSWA and DOA
