M70 Oberndorf Pioneer and Artillery Needle Carbine

Hi All,

Here is another addition to my Zündnadelgewehr obsession-- trying to keep them coming Vincent!

This is a very rare M70 Pioneer and Artillery carbine. It was manufactured at the Württemberg State Arsenal at Oberndorf (Pre-Mauser) and marks one of the last production models there. The Mauser Brothers, as their father before them, were employed at this factory.

The rifle is in great shape, though was cleaned a long time ago (metal is begining to re-patina). There are Württemberg acceptance marks on the stock (faint) and receiver. (Very interesting to see pre-imperial proofs on something from a smaller state)

The unit marking is to the 13th Württemberg Pioneers (fitting, given model). The needle is intact and the rifle is all matching. The bolt has the Beck improvements.

Thanks for looking!

Wonderful piece, Chris! So interesting to see the acceptance. Some looks straight Imperial, but the shields on the bands? So cool!

Congratulations, Chris. What a rare piece and in such a nice condition. Only 1500 of those handy rifles were made.

Even though i only collect prussian stuff i really do love those needle guns from the other small states.

Thanks for sharing and posting it here.

Cheers,

Vincent

Here is another one from the same unit: 13th Wurttembergisches Pionier-Bataillon. It appears to be the same configuration with similar markings. Unfortunately, mine is missing the rod, the front band is certainly not original and the bolt is mismatched. Apologies for the poor pictures.

Thank you-- very cool to see another. There can't be many left of these! Interesting that someone used what looks to be an M41 (or one similar) front band as a replacement

Thanks Vincent, I'm trying to pick up any I can. I only have 5 currently. These are all pretty rare in the US. I'd like an M54, M62 and an M65 at some point.
