Good day gents

I acquired an old Mauser .22 LR in South Africa.

A little unsure as to model and date of manufacture.
I suspect it to be a Ms420 taking the 5 round slanted magazine.

Confirmation of model and date would be greatly appreciated.IMG_0997(1).JPEGWhatsApp Image 2023-01-30 at 10.42.38 AM (1).jpegWhatsApp Image 2023-01-30 at 10.42.38 AM (2).jpegWhatsApp Image 2023-01-30 at 10.42.38 AM (5).jpegWhatsApp Image 2023-01-30 at 10.42.38 AM (11).jpegWhatsApp Image 2023-01-30 at 10.42.38 AM (12).jpeg

early pattern.. not sure if the mags are the same as the later pattern ? I think someone repops the mags..

Triple K has made replacements in the past. for some reason or another, they do not have the very slanted bottom of the original but have the straight sides needed for for the early repeaters. I see quite a few of the Triple K mags on gunbroker or ebay but it might be a problem shipping out of the US.

Thanks oldwing, the slant bottom seem to be out of stock on many websites.

I am awaiting confirmation from a Cape Town based company who had some awhile ago.

I found one in Cape Town, almost more expensive than the rifle.
Oh well now the Mauser can be complete again.

thanks again for all the help.

Driesw, I beleive it would have a composition (plastic) plate, I think Mauser called it Vulcanite. That buttplate has the Mauser logo cast into it.

Good evening gentlemen

Some pictures of the salvaged/restored rifle.
Please give honest critique on what you see.8A85C610-EBFF-4D27-9EFE-94CF2459B2B7 (2).jpgIMG_1176.JPEG

Does anybody know why there would be a secondary number 458 stamped on the barrel next to the Serial number?

I'm not as familiar with these trainers, but it could be a lot number for the steel used on the barrel, assembly number or something else similar.

Comment from another group said it may be an inspectors number.
Real German inspect and double check. Like it should be.
