Mauser byf44 P38 Rig

This one was an unexpected but welcome addition after finding it last minute and buying it. This pistol is a standard, run of the mill byf44 P38 that was made in late 1944 and was paired with an earlier 1943 dated hardshell holster and spare magazine which seems to have lived in the holster its entire life. This is right before Mauser started implementing parkerizing into P38 production and the dual tone finish pistols from my understanding and some of the more obscure variants mentioned in Krutzek's "The P.38 Pistol". The front strap and trigger guard have a rather worn appearance in comparison to the rest of the pistol, either it was handled a fair amount or the bluing didn't take very well to that portion. Aside from that and some minor holster wear, it's a nice representative example of an issued byf44 P38. Now I just need a byf44 K98k to go with it!

Pistol breaks down as follows:
Frame: 882b, E/WaA135
Slide: 882b, byf/44, E/WaA135x2, Firing Proof
Barrel: 882b, E/WaA135, Firing Proof
Locking Block: 882b, E/WaA135, Firing Proof
Front Sight: 4
Takedown Lever: Not marked
Grips: P/1529/2 on left, P/1528/3 on right
Magazines: P38v(x1), E/135, P38, jvd, WaA706
Holster: P.38, 1943, WaA706 (faint)

Yep, right before the phosphate finished guns. The grip strap wear is from handling. It happens. Nice rig for sure. I have a later b block byf44.

Thanks! I don't mind the wear from handling, I know there's stone mint guns out there but I personally prefer something with a bit of honest wear. Is your b block byf44 a phosphate finished gun?

No, my b block is all blued. I found it by accident at a Tulsa gun show in 2019, way in a corner table near the wall of the building. A really young guy who had just gotten his FFL had it on his table. Mine is #3821b.

Nice one! BYF44 P-38's are my favorite as many can be found in really super condition.
Thanks! It does seem like a lot of them can be found in outstanding condition. Hopefully, I can find a Spreewerke P38 that's as nice as this one in the future!
