Mauser Collection - Research and Re-homing Dad's Guns

(Updated)

Greetings,

I have several Mausers from my dad's collection that I am researching to sell. I want to make sure they are not misrepresented. The link below includes photos of all the guns. Guns 6 and 7 are K98s that I have learned have fake bolts. They will not get released into the wild. Guns 1-16 are the Mausers. Any knowledge is appreciated. Thanks!

Wow, a lot of really NICE stuff in there...

Depending where in TX you are, there are quite a few TX members here...we have some great guys in DFW, guys down Houston way, I think some in Austin...all over really. Maybe some would be willing to look at them personally to help you out on fair valuations...

Small typo correction.
nr2 is carbine Kar 98 A
nr.4 is Chilean M1912 made in Steyr
nr.5 G33/40
6,7 Kar.98k
nr.12- IG71/84

yes nice collection slings, sight hoods and muzzle covers on most and they appear to be original. Your dad was a true collector. I assume he was Mr Nambu over a GB

sorry to hear of his passing

Mr. Nambu - ammo at Tulsa show in April.

Yes sir, he was Mr. Nambu on GB. He primarily sold ammo on GB. He loved to build ammo for Arisaka rifles and Nambu pistols. He also loaded hard-to-find ammo for WWII rifles. Some of his friends are taking the rest of his ammo to the Tulsa gun show in April. They kept the tables that my dad had there for over 25 years.

Rehoming - hopefully not auctioning

Nice collection...sorry about your dad.

Is this an auction.....?

Thanks for asking. I am hoping to avoid auctions and pass on his collection to those who help me learn about the rifles and help determine a fair market value. I do have an "offer" link on the website. (Moderator note, If there are rules to not post for sale, I want to honor that and not post anything that violates the forum rules).

I have become fairly knowledgeable on Arisaka rifles, now I need to learn more about the Mausers. Other WWII guns and pistols will follow.

Current collection for sale

Guys I just want to let know all know what is going on here.
Dale I apologize for the intrusion here but you are using our web site for a proxy
to yours and your sales methodology conflicts with the standards set by this forum

Our trader sets fixed pricing on items and we do not allow playing one collector against another.
Why not research the items and set a reasonable price on them.

I fully expect this thread to have some moderator involvement as I am the first mod to respond,
especially since I had first hand knowledge of the pricing methods you are using.

Sorry but that's our policy.

Dale,
While I'm sure your intentions are good, but asking people here to appraise things for you, posting pictures, then soliciting private offers (i.e., blind bidding) is against our rules here. It causes problems and is not a fair way to do business and leads to problems. All the free, best on this planet, information you get here, plus a free trader, means our rules must be abided by. You'll need to post prices on your items and list them here, or I'm going to have to zap your link. If guys where want to play the blind bidding game they can do so off site, but not in connection with the show we are running here.
Thanks,
HB

We’ve already been getting complaints about dealings. I’ve given him the benefit of the doubt and the posts are still here. If anyone here wants trinkets so bad that they’ll play the blind bidder a$$ monkey game, then that’s on them and there will be no whinging here about that. However, I will ban accounts for transaction chicanery.

Understood

Understood - I am getting educated on the proper way to do this. I am thinking the best is to put up on auction. I have spent most of this year conducting research on the Arisaka rifles and have transitioned to the Mausers. I am not having luck finding good tools to help me understand value. The Mauser world is HUGE! The Arisakas were fairly easy to figure out. Please know to all, that I have no intention of being "wonky" - but I can understand that perception. Perception trumps intent, so I need to respect that reality and find the best path forward. I appreciate the above comments and have incorporated the corrections.

Understood. The blind bidder concept was not something I was aware until today. I appreciate you giving me the benefit of the doubt. I am nearing the conclusion that I will not have the capability to find fair market value of the Mausers w/o offending the community that my dad loved. On the Arisakas, I was able to find collectors who worked with me to find fair market, and many of the guns are now with them. I've not had success yet with the Mausers. I still have the rest of his WWII collection, his modern guns, and his pistols.

Please accept my apologies for my lack of understanding.

That was a bit of an insult of our community mixed with an apology, what is called a backhanded apology. I’ve never known this community to not be excessively helpful with excellent free information. I was (and to a limited extent still am) involved in Arisaka / Japanese collecting as well. I know that community from back to the early Banzai days, where I was a member. It is no better in quality of collectors or assistance. So, I’m calling bollocks on the “offending the community my dad loved.” That’s not the case. You are, however, offending the rules of this site and the rules of fair play and good dealing by using our free site to get good information while engaging in a commission free blind auction process (which is inherently unfair to the “bidders”). Put the collection up for auction or post a list with your prices “or best offer” (“obo”). You can blame me for calling bollocks. I am sorry for your loss and wish you the best of luck in getting maximum value for your father’s collection.
Cheers,
HB

Understood - I tried to remove the link in another post at the location below - it needs to have the link removed as well.

It’s all good now. He needs help IDing and valuing. He can then list them here and Gunboards with prices and “obo”. What doesn’t sell can go on Gunbonker. That’s my suggestion.

I'll be honest I was a silent bystander and while I enjoyed the observations, corrections and notes from member here I'll also be honest in that I was waiting for that 'shoe to drop'. Most of us don't appreciate that nonsense you described Ham. Either post them for sale or do an honest 'what do I have here'. For the OP, no hate and GLWS.
