Mauser Oberndorf byf 44 'h' block - attic find

Hi everyone,
I have been looking for one in good condition and a good bore for some time. I got his one 2 weeks ago, it is an attic find from Lille (France). Lille was liberated on September 2/3, 1944.
The rifle probably saw little use, but the post-war neglect has done its work. A problem very common here in France, as most K98ks were considered "weapons of war" until 2013, and thus they were hidden.
Barrel code is 44 D 602.
An interesting feature is that the rear band was numbered upside/down (I bought it with the ring on the right handside/the wrong side). I put the band correctly now as you can see on the last pic. Other than that it is all-matching and has the common features of the 'h' block (s/n on barrel).

Outstanding original covered with history. It talks to you! Well done and congrats GO. We needed an h block for the pic sticky ref. library so this one is it.

Congratulations. Interesting to see the rougher finish the metal was left in these later war production 98ks. Still gun looks to be in good condition. Thanks for sharing.

You've been so prolific on the history and research side of things here that I'm glad you were able to join the personal-ownership and picture-showoff side of the forum. If anyone deserves a nice h-block byf44 it's a guy like you putting in the legwork, nice find. I'd not worry about the condition at all it looks pretty stunning as is, and knowing where it came from is golden.
