Hi I recently bought a 8mm mauser when I got it at the shop the seller didn't have much information just that it's from Yugoslavia, and so I talked him down to $500 but not sure if that's a good price also I took the whole gun apart and found some markings on barrel, receiver, trigger and on bolt. Need help knowing if I over payed or if it's a good price and what the markings mean.

Thank you

Hi, can't help much with the rifle. I do think it's a Yugo. Anyway, a nice looking rifle and $500 US is still cheap for it. That's about $763 Australian dollars. I wouldn't find anything in that condition here for that sort of money.

To echo what's been said already, this is a Yugo reworked K98k and you did just fine for the price. The Yugos were pretty thorough in removing German markings on most of the external metal, and these were often rebarreled by Yugoslavia after WWII. Looks like some of the German inspection stamps survive on the more recessed areas, the two E/655 on the bolt root make the bolt a Mauser Oberndorf bolt from 1940-41, the trigger group looks like it was made by Radom with the E/77, and the receiver subcontracted out to Astrawerke with the E/1 in your last picture (Astrawerke receivers were commonly used by Gustloff Werke).

The 817 is an assembly number that the Yugos put on the rifle and matches the 817 on the bolt. I believe the T* is a Yugoslavian inspection stamp of some sort.
