New G43 ac44 looking for more information

Hello all, I am still somewhat new to the forum and just got around to taking pictures of my new G43. I did order Rough Forged Revised Edition and currently waiting on it. I am looking for more information about it and your guy's thoughts about it. I also shot it with Apfeltors kit and it was great shooting it, but probably won't do it too often as it's a very nice rifle.

Seems to be all matching except for one locking lug that's unnumbered, but unsure if that's normal or not. I also wanted to know if the numbers on the top/bottom of the lugs meant anything in particular as I know nothing about it being there.

What letter block is your G.43? Hard to tell.

The unnumbered locking lug is probably an armorer’s replacement. The numbers on top of the locking lugs are internal factory numbers. We don’t know the meaning of them.

The rifle looks good and the stock looks good. Just can’t tell the letter block as I might have prior history on the rifle in my serial number data base I have been keeping up with. Or, it could be a new entry.

The dust cover is the way it is because there was an ordered field modification to snap off the end that connects to the bolt carrier to keep it from binding up with it. Some of them would and jam up the rifle. It’s a field modified early automatic dust cover.

I wouldn’t shoot it. Too valuable. These weren’t made in the best of conditions. Some had heat treat problems where factory workers sabotaged them. Some were over heated or under heated, making the metal too soft or too hard (brittle). Plus, some of the steel wasn’t quite up to strength anyway as the Germans were loosing ground where some of the better materials were coming from as the War progressed. The shooter’s kit is what is needed to tame the gas pressure down.

Thank you for the response. There is a little bit of grime there but it is letter block i. I believe the stock is unsanded as it does feel rough around the edges and markings are very crisp, but I'm not very experienced yet so not 100% sure.

It looks unsanded to me. You can see the wood mill marks, and the crisp stamps. They are whitened in by someone unfortunately. If you try and remove the white stuff just be extremely careful and don’t rush it or get too harsh trying to do so. You could do more harm than good.

Sounds great. As for the whitened in parts I'll probably leave that alone as to not risk damaging anything. I don't think it looks terrible, but wouldn't do it to other guns I have as I can't see the markings as clearly. I assume it's safe to leave it there as is?

G.43 #5031i has been reported, but not much info on that rifle.

Yeah, it’s safe. Just not “factory done”. But left alone, it’s okay.

I agree. Nice rifle. the one locking lug could have been missed on the numbering or replaced. It really has little to no effect on value as its un-numbered IMHO. Stock looks un touched to me . Those cross sanding marks are factory. i block for sure.

I agree with this. Many rifles have 1 locking lug unnumbered. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Nice rifle...the locking lug could be original to the rifle or a replacement...either way not a deal breaker. I did notice it looks like the stock recoil bolt is reversed from what is normally found, but again not a deal breaker.
