Hey yall.
Just want to introduce myself. My name is Andrew and I am from North Ga. Im an avid deer hunter and reloaded. I collector old Winchester shotguns, or just old firearms in general. I grew up hunting with a Winchester Model 70, both with and without CRF. I am 13 years law enforcement and have attended two sniper schools. My previous agency, I was the SWAT team leader and I was tasked with being the sniper unit for the team. I began precision, long range shooting when I was 16 years old, I'm 37 now.

A brief history about why I joined this forum, is due to my fascination with World Word 2. I specifically have a lot of interest in Germany WW2 history. I have some German distantly in my blood lines, so naturally I'm intrigued.

I am familiar with Mauser style actions such as as the Win Model 70 and the Ruger M77. I've owned 1 Ruger but roughly 7 or 8 Model 70s. Recently, I have been religiously studying the history of Mauser rifles, particularly the Mauser 98. To be more specific the Mauser 98k. I have been researching sporterized Mausers and interested in buying a 98K and make it Sporterized. Well I am currently waiting on a Mauser 98k made by
Berlin-Lubecker Maschinenfabrik. with a 24" barrel. The rifle has Waffen inspector marks, which really look good. From the pictures I noticed an inspector mark on the left side of the receiver and another inspector mark on the left side of the barrel. Once its said and done, I will only have $450 in the rifle. The rifle appears to be in great shape. The one negative in my mind from everything I can tell is all the serial numbers on the bolt match, but it doesn't match anywhere else like on the receiver or floor plate. Im still learning if that is a big deal.

Just wanted to introduce myself and my newly acquired obsession with learning about the Mauser 98.

Here are some pictures of the rifle Im waiting on. I still haven't determined what type of peep sight that is, or if installing a sight in that location is somewhat normal.

Welcome! I’m also in the North Georgia area. I’ve hunted with my K98 and killed a few with it. Nice rifle by the way!👍

I’m in Columbus, welcome!
Your rifle will make a great deer gun. It looks to be a bolt mismatch that was heavily sporterized. It was polished and reblued and does not reside in its original military stock. The rear bridge was drilled for the peep sight. Pretty much no collectors value left at this point, nonetheless a good price for a useful hunting tool!
