1st post here, i started collecting older rifles and enjoying shooting them. i just picked up this k98 for a shooter as it looks to be all mixed parts and not that valuable but i saw 2 s.s. looking marks on it and was wondering if they are real and of any value, and maybe not use is as frequent shooter? most seem to be fake im guessing? i have been reading the forum for a day or 2 and using the search box to get a better understanding of these rifles but i am really green on what anything means still and was hoping for some insight. some pics of the rifle.

Stock is from a gew98 converted to k98 for the ss, but the markings on the receiver are not ss. They're just inspection markings. Rifle is a Russian capture.

Agreed. You have a russian capture rifle. so its a complete mix of many k98s put into one. The stock I believe is a legit SS rework.

Thanks for the Info guys, is it worth it to find another stock and put this one aside or just fire away ?

To some, that stock has value being off an ss rework. Since it's a r/c mixmaster you could swap the stock out with someone and make some cash on the deal. In the end it's still a miss matched rifle.

RC rifles are always interesting to me. When you notice that every part has a different number, you start to realize just how many of these guns the Russians ended up with. Anyone care to venture a guess as to how many? It has to be seven figures.

Obviously the USSR captured millions of them, how many they refurbed is another matter. My WAG would be around 5 million, but that's a big number of foreign-made rifles to stash away when they had so many millions of small arms of their own.

In that condition, I dont think the SS mark on the stock holds any extra value. A little more interesting but I wouldnt worry about shooting it.
