...everybody seemed pretty relaxed...
These Germans in this video had it relatively good, having surrendered to the Western Allies.
The Germans who surrendered to the Soviets were treated horribly from the time they laid down their weapons until they were released (if they survived) years later. Heer/Luftwaffe troops were immediately stripped of anything valuable by their Russian captors and often physically assaulted all along their long journey to POW camps in the USSR. Waffen SS troops were typically executed upon, or not long after, surrender. If the Soviets were occupying an area and discovered a family had a son or husband in the Waffen SS, the family members would be punished.
In the POW camps the German prisoners were starved, wore rags, were quartered in shelters with no heat, and worked to complete exhaustion in lumber, mining, and agricultural slave labor operations. They were frequently subjected to tortuous inquisitions where they were questioned over and over about stealing Soviet property during the German invasion of the USSR. If they broke down and admitted to requisitioning so much as an egg or a crust of bread from a Russian farmhouse, their sentences would be increased by years.
And allied POW"s were starved . Canadian and American POWS were murdered...let alone what they did to russian POW's.... then the einsatzkommando operations , final solution etc etc... I shed no tears here. What goes around comes around...karma...was a bitch then too. I talked with a vet many years ago when I was a kid. A vet whom entered one of those KZ camps...at the time in 1945 he felt that all germans should be killed !.
If you read any revisionist history, you will question everything. Pictures show a flattened German nation, one with no more worthwhile bombing targets. No system of supply, communication, or power. In such conditions disease would have been rampant. Prisons would have fared the worst. You want to blame someone, blame the bankers.
The Germans were the losers. The victors could write history any way they wanted and the losers didn't have much to say about it. Over the years, after consuming as much information as I could on WW2, I have come to the conclusion that a hell of a lot of things about the war have either been completely ignored or were biased to fit the official narratives of the victors. Yes, question everything.
Can anyone identify the totenkopf medal in wear at 9:43?
I have never seen such an award.

Hello,
It's the Panzerkampfabzeichen der Legion Condor(Tank Battle Badge Legion Condor) for the service in the Spanish civil war.
To the other part of the conversation here, the normal and little people couldn't change anything in politics and I think the majority at that time has never heard about Einsatzgruppen and the final solution. I have tears for the innocent people in Germany and from all other nations who died.
