I picked up two Suhl's this summer and this is the latest of the two. It is very early in the production run at serial number 70. I do have a question about the rifle, what does the marking on the butt of the stock represent?

Here is the other Suhl. This one was complete with a sling.

it has the typical DLV marked barrel. So, my guess was some sort or DLV grp. mark. FL generally is a abbreviation for Flieger aka "flight" unit.
This was an early organization that was absorbed into a larger one fairly early on circa 36.

I suspect a possible relationship to the Deutsche Luftsportverband, also, and there was a flying club nearby that might bear looking into further for some association to it. The Roman numeral could signify a geographic area as well as possibly a unit number of an organization. Good luck in the detective work. Will keep an eye out for any reference to it.

Bingo! (or at least a partial Bingo!)
Located another Suhl consortium DSM with same organization marked on buttplate (I believe) with a bit more detail. This one has:

Fl. L. G. 7 Zg. 20

My notes have that identified as "Flieger Luft-Gau 7, Zeug (platoon)20, which certainly suggests an association to the DLV. Very many of the Suhl DSMs are marked for the DLV on the barrel. These guns may have had this property mark added because they did not have the DLV mark on the barrel, possibly? Anyway, hope that gives you some more information for researching it. I do not have a location for the unit in my notes.
