The Germans diverted many Portuguese contract rifles for their own use. Usually, they did not bother to scrub and remark the receiver rings, as we see here. This was obviously done by the Mauser factory. Nice find!

Yes, I used to own a Norwegian 30-06 converted K98k (Mauser K98k F1) 1941 Portuguese contract, and I know of several others that ended up in Norway during the war — but they all had the crest on the receiver ring and on the stock. This one was new to me as well, and it really makes me wonder how many other Portuguese contract ghost receivers are still out there, and of those, how many still have identifiable markings. It would be very interesting to take a closer look at other 1942 dated byf rifles with walnut stocks. Are there any Portuguese remnants on the receiver ring? Do they have numbers matching stocks with 1941 dated parts? Perhaps there are more out there… or is this a one of a kind? Just a thought.
