Pre War Waffen SS

Worn very lightly.

Purchased in 1985 from a German who worked on post at the fire station at Ayers Kaserne at Kirch-Göns, Germany, where I was stationed, as part of the 3rd Armored Division.

Hard to believe 38 years have passed !!!!!

Absolutely nothing left of the Kaserne today except some concrete pads where our tanks were parked.

The rest was bull dozed, and turned into a parking lot for a transport company.

As often as possible I would saddle up and go to the Frankfurt Flohmarkt. in downtown Frankfurt, next to the river.

The local Turks, who worked as rag pickers in the recycling business, often found wonderful items that they would take and sell on Saturdays.

I once bought 20 pairs of original German WW2 marching boots from a Turk for 10 Marks a set.

I was also stationed with the 11th ACR at Bad Hersfeld 1979 -81.

I always wanted to steal the eagle that was left in place over the Headquarter's building minus the Hákenkreuz ....

In the last photo a shite ton of 113s. I was at Ray Barracks. Doesn't seem that long ago but the numbers say otherwise.
Yes, truly amazing how soon we age. Visited Germany several years ago and was shocked to see all the old Kasernes either demolished, repurposed, or now housing Middle East refugees. We went to the old East / West border at OP Alpha, which has been kept as a historical site. I suddenly felt ancient. After a few beers my German, which I had not spoken for years, improved remarkably !!!!!
