PROJECT - Kriegsmodell front plate

My kriegsmodell band screws were a success, as I sold all 40 pairs that were originallly manufactured.

So, I am exploring the option to make new reproductions of the front plate "abdeckblech" and screw.

I am trying to get a feeling here how many people may be interested in these front plates? Give me your thoughts???

I thank all of the forum members for their support with the band screws!

I'm curious too. I get request for them pretty often, but that may be only 10 a year (to me thats a lot). Still, I think worth doing if you are wanting a project.

end cap

they are die struck. so the hardest part is making the dies and I assume you can form them in a standard hydraulic press ?? Titan is a pretty talented dude. He repairs the broken spring steel strap on k98k grenade launchers as well. I was very impressed with the work..:hail:

I have looked into this as well, having an extensive background in metal stamping. I know just how to do it, I just haven't gotten to it.

The die to have them made in a shop as a small run would be prohibitive. Dies are not cheap. People would buy them until the small number that needs them had them, then...I think the sales would dealine, and who knows if that "fixed" market would justify the effort and/or expense.

I may do the same yet someday, but I just have not had the motivation. I already have a plan made to make them largely by hand, but geez, no time to do it!

By the way, Titan, I failed in an epic manner by not buying a couple of those screw sets from you. Those were great.

Any chance of another run of them?

screws

Put me down for 2 sets if you redo the run on the screws.

My opinion on the front plate is to machine a simple top and bottom die set out of 4140, lacking the punch and button for the hole. Laser cut blanks with the hole, form them in a hydraulic press (wouldn't take much tonnage), then set up a punch set to complete the hole/counter sink. I've had a couple of these in my hand, and they're what, like 20 ga.? Super thin. I think this would be the cheapest and fastest option. When you start talking 3 stage auto feed tools...that's where it gets expensive. Just my opinion of course.

Count me in for two sets of screws (if you make another run) and front plates.

Yeah, I could use a couple of sets of screws, and would probably grab a plate or two and screws just to have on hand. A friend and I talked about this a while ago...we figuerd if you could have a machinist make the dies, it should be pretty easy after that...I have actually made by hand a plate out of thin metal. Not perfect, but it served the purpose...

There is a factory drawing of the plate with all the dims in BBOTW....

Thanks for all the input, With all of the interest in the screws, there is a strong possibility that there will be another run. Keep the comments coming.

I got "screwed" by Titan. Amazing job ! I am not a big parts guy but I am glad someone is taking the initiative on these type of projects.

I am in for more screws (minimum two sets, likely more). I don't think you would have much trouble selling another 20 sets.

I count at least 12 sets of Kriegs stock screws in this thread alone.

Back by Popular Demand!!!
Since there is enough interest in the screws, 32 pairs have been made. I am out of screws so this will be the last batch! The phosphate finished screws should be available for sale next weekend, and the hot blued finished screws will be available for sale in about 3 weeks. The price is $20 per pair of screws shipped, payment can be made by check, money order or cash.
Thanks, Titan
