questions about a byf 43 russian capture

I bought this rifle about ten years ago, my one and only K98k. As far as I can tell its a RC, but it has a few things that I cant explain. It has what I think is a stamped qnw floor plate that seems to be blued with areas of purple in it, its not black like the rest of the rifle (excluding the extractor and the side of the bolt release) but it is forced matched to the rest of the rifle. The bolt handle serial number seems to have been ground before the black finish was applied. here are some pics,

Not sure what the question is but I’ll give it a go. Is a force matched RC. Standard X stamp on receiver. They mixed and matched parts from random rifles. Fitted the stuff together, checked for function. The metal was “hot dip” Soviet blued which gives it the “black” appearance. It’s not a great bluing, especially when the metal is not properly prepared (in k98k refurbishment, it wasnt). That and other metallurgical factors contribute to the variation in finish. The top of the bolt root was commonly grinded of serials. The electropenciled numbers (which do all appear to match) are your new refurb “matching numbers” now. It’s a totally correct matching RC, let’s put it that way..,

For example, on JP Sauer k98ks, many times you will find the “plum” bluing finish on certain parts. Most commonly on the bolt and extractor.

You do have a low cut steyr (BNZ) stock on it, so that’s kinda cool imo. How’s the bore on it?

Thanks Mauserguy you answered my questions. The bore is pretty bright with decent rifling. What is a low cut stock, and how can you tell its a low cut styer? Any idea what make the bolt is?
Are you referring to the sideways "135"? I thought that was interesting as well.

Steyr (BNZ) was a Manufacturer that produced a late war trademark feature on their stocks. We have come to know it as a “low bolt cutout”.

Your bolt body originally belonged to a Mauser Borsigwalde (243) pre-war k98k. I’m seeing double “280” proofs on the bottom and the firing proof is the Weimar style eagle. So it’s definitely pre war.
