Recent addition, S/42G

This is a recent addition from a fellow who bought the vets estate guns. Unfortunately, i do not have any more info on the vet, however he also brought back a very nice vz24 bayonet with the rifle.
The rifle is matching sans the cleaning rod. Condition of the metal is spotty, been well used, the wood is in good condition with very nice proofs and serial. Hand guard also retains the exterior proof at the top. Sling recess is also DRP Dresden marked, which was unexpected. It also has the early open buckle sling, with a brass stud froesch, yet to find any markings on it. The rifle is very similar to Eric’s S/42G, DRP marked, however this one has been well used.
A nice vz24 bayonet was also brought back with the rifle.
Some late rainy day photos, not great photos , but best that could be done today.

Damn, who do I have to pay off to get K98ks fresh from an estate? Wood definitely looks better than the metal on this one but still not bad for finding a matching S/42G in the wild.

Sling probably on the rifle since issue as many of these Kar98a slings were used on the first 98ks. This sling could well date to pre WWI era with brass fittings.

Hello Paul, here is a photo of the RR. I have yet to disassemble the rifle so I do not have any under the wood photos except the handguard.
Hope all is well.
Jeff

Thanks Jeff, - the barrel would be interesting, WMO rarely are, but 1934-1935 are for obvious reasons... the beginning and ends or periods of distress are always full of variables. But no worries on getting to the barrel on my account, barrel trends are full of holes and it will take the next generation of researchers to get a real pattern of consistency (assuming anyone is crazy enough to continue such "research")

Things are better personally, but like everyone things are tough on people who have to earn an honest dollar (these days is there such a thing as an honest dollar?? perhaps only in how it is acquired, certainly not what it represents...)

Thanks again & have a Merry Christmas my friend!
