Thanks! Are both mounts your mounts?

Side note: all recoil bar SSR scopes come with two wing nut SSR mount. Single wing nut is always without recoil bar.

Is this just Your opinion based examples seen , or do You have Proof or Documentation to back up this statement .

It is an observation to which I so far have not seen a proof that this is wrong. In my opinion it also makes sense. The two wing nut is much flatter than the single wing nut (mainly because the single wing nuts have the wing bent upwards and are much longer than the arms of the two wing nuts). And if you have a bar on the scope you have much less space between the nut and the scope to tighten the nut. So to despite of a recoil bar allow tighenting of the nut you'd need to make it flatter, but if only a single wing it might be too tough to properly tighten it. So the solution was to add another wing.

Interesting information, thanks for sharing Xavier.

There is still so much about Short Side Rails we do not know. And we will likely never know because there are not enough legitimate examples to observe. As a result we will not be able formulate sound theories about the mounting system. Then add to it that most went through a depot at one time or another for repairs/updates and it really muddies the waters.

one wing nut on ssr mount

Hello
please find picture of a single wing nut on ssr mount. Is it about the same bending as on the two single nuts ? It looks like.
Is there clearance enough to put a recoil bar and to turn the nut ? It looks like.
thanks for your advice.
best regards

Xavier, I don’t think there would be an issue of clearance with a single wing vs a double wing contacting a recoil bar based on your photo.

Hi Xavier,
you can find an Ajack in SSR mount with a single wing nut in his book, also mount only with single wing nut, Zielvier in single wing nut, SSR mount converted to single wing nut (former large Weihrauch HWZ mount), but also Kahles H/4x60 with dual wing nut in his book.
Please compare the pictures in there. You will notice the single wing nut the wing always first goes straight and then bent upwards, whereas with two wing nuts additionally exist in a variant where the wings are already at the beginning bent upwards and do not have a bend in them (the one in the book shown, owned by a forum member in here).
