Hello ber, happy new year to you. Is it an attic find ?
The safety shows a wear and tear similar to the other parts. Even if there ´s no way to prove it, I would bet the parts got mixed during a cleaning session.

guillaume , yes it's an attic find
bruce , yes sadly the stock date is unreadable .
thanks to all
ber

Salty, but I love it. Such an honest rifle and almost almost all matching… for me, not a deal breaker if it were for sale. These early rifles just show how extreme the Germans went with these things, does the cleaning rod need to be serialized, does every screw need to be serialized??? I mean come on these were not meant to be high end sporting guns… they are military rifles which are going to go through some pretty extreme conditions, like uh Stalingrad for example which makes these early early rifles all the more impressive IMHO that some remain in matching condition.

On the flip side, @mrfarb (I swear worse than a crack dealer) got me really really addicted to late late war rifles WITH THE CONSTANT K98 RIFLE PORN POSTING because compared to the early rifles like yours, they show just how extreme things got for the Germans the last few months of the war and how they had to abandon the German cultural trait of OVER ENGINEERING EVERYTHING, something that goes against their ethos.
