Thanks Mike, that makes sense.Doubtful since 1935 production was less than 10000 and that rifle has a letter block. More likely just training at Mauser. The E/49 team seems to be a startup team though from Sauer K dates on.

The single "box style" inspection on the right side of the receiver was applied at Mauser.
The serial and E/49s were done at final but not at Mauser.
Where was final done--possibly at Mauser Berlin but the letter suffix puts the assembly much later.
I am still digging.
At the Berlin facility in 1935, inspection team E/49 was apparently responsible for manufacturing startup.
By serial number 168, team E/46 had taken over and by SN 1681 team 211 was in place.
What is the letter block of the rifle on GB?
