Saw This on Gunboards

Out of my price range. Good news is it looks like there will be a whole lot of rare Mausers coming in. At least Ethiopian Mausers. Who knows what else they have. Forgotten Weapons did a video on it yesterday. That combined with all the sales listings lately looks like the Silver Age of Milsurps is in full swing.

These are really unique rifles that are hard to find "truth" on. There were so many scrubbed SCW rifles out there, finding one like this one is pretty rare.

Mine looks just like it, all matching but is a 1930 K29 as opposed to wz29 and no WaA, but previous discussion suggests it is German used, but hard to prove. I'd love to learn more.

I have one. I'd knock someone over with it if they offered me that for it.

From what I have observed over the last four decades, unaltered, original Polish issue rifles are scarcer than German reissues. Polish rifles taken by the Germans may exhibit many degrees of modification...from virtually nothing to a thorough going over. The rifle pictured in the link is of the latter type. Most commonly, the magazine follower is modified to act as a bolt-stop and the bolt may be blued (from the original "in-white" finish). Possibly a refurbishment stamp (something like "HzaJt20"), might be stamped behind the rear of the trigger guard or pistol grip. Polish rifles were sent to Spain (and ultimately emanated from there) as reparations from some sort of economic agreement which Poland defaulted on, c.a. 1937. Don't know if the rifles were subsequently scrubbed in Spain, but most seem to have had this done upon refurbishment. In addition, the Kriegsmarine received a number of both Polish rifles & bayonets c.a. 1940/41.

Pwcosol, thanks for the education! Not to hijack the thread, but my bolt is blued, and I have to go look to see if the follower is modified to hold open. These are the only photos I have on my phone.

If someone pays $3800 for that one, I have a very nice, original, spare Wz.29 sling I'll sell them for $750. It came out of Norwegian German surplus with K98k and MP.40 slings removed from weapons in Norway. Also got a couple nice Vz.24 slings.

Is the “M” at the wrist Marine or is that a Polish mark? Don’t know these rifles well so wasn’t sure if it was a KM mark

Thanks, Nick

I don't think that "M" is a Polish mark. It is stamped over Polish "D2" mark in an oval. Also it seems deeper, similar to WaA mark. Polish D2 and eagle marks seem little shallower.
Also it is hard to find Polish rifle with matching Polish bolt.

Jack

It’s not a KM Mark. That it is stamped over a different inspection means it was a later inspect in the process, my opinion being the Polish / Radom process.

My Inn4 wz29 has 'N' and 'L' stamped in the same locations as the 'M' and 'r' on the rifle above. Original Polish stamps on mine are worn, but the HZa inspection and letters are fresh.

Probably German, as original wz's I could find photos of don't have these stamps. Definitely nothing to do with the KM in any event.

I have to vote with RyanE on this. All original WZ Polish Mausers I have seen don’t have the letter markings and it’s either the small eagle and the d2 in oval marks or have the large eagle and d in hexagon marks on the bottom of the stock wrist. They might not be German but I don't believe that they are factory original either.

$3500? Lol. No way. These aren’t that rare.

It was $3800. It seems he’s just doing a “reverse auction.” Fair enough I reckon. Be interesting to see where it stops.
