Screamer of a 1916 WOK

Hi All,

I am proud to be the new caretaker of this lovely 1916 WOK from Mike. While I have a 1915, it's a beater and was hoping to come across a high condition WOK at some point to counter balance the rough one. This example is matching down to the cleaning rod and a real showstopper--including one of the nicest beech stocks I've handled. It's about anything one could ask for in a WOK, this also showcases the sloppiness of this particular maker (note the upside-down recoil lug and shoddy SN stamping) While there are harder rifles to find, there is a certain mystique about this maker that tends to draw people in. I'm happy so many of these have gone to folks here.

The bands and triggerguard have little bluing remaining (as i tend to see from this maker), leading me to beleive that they had issues with their bluing process on these. Makes sense given the issues WOK experienced in production.

While Mike posted some photos several years ago, I disassembled and got barrel codes and a few interior shots for reference and Paul's data.

Wow Chris! I have never seen a WOK in this condition. Wonderful collection you are amassing! Love this one! I’ve been too busy dealing with my Dad to post anything lately. Keep em coming!

Jesus that lumber is beautiful. A wonderful rifle overall. Congrats on that catch!

It is a stunning example, - interestingly this rifle was on SteveF inventory that included the JPS/16 1629/m recently displayed here... from the same collection in mid-2005. (Mike bought it the same year...)

I think WOK is rarer than typically accepted, I trended them several months ago and imo they serialed year to year without roll over, so basically the numbers made are far lower than some may assume (w/o roll over the projected numbers are far lower year to year - and in this condition pretty rare)

BTW< I also agree that the rifles Mike is parting with are being distributed in a very worthy way, not thrown to the wind on auction where the fate could be jeopardized by some numbskull... this is not to say that some of these may not end up that way, but Mike taking the precaution to find good homes is a rather new approach... an approach that deserves consideration for us all when the time comes to part with a quality collection of rare rifles, - thinking (and acting) of the rifles fate but not sacrificing the investment made over the years.

You can't help but love the kornbusch rifles. Glad to see you get this rifle Chris and glad my buddy Sam got my other one.

Thanks Rick! When I pulled this one out of the gun sock when I met up with Mike I was all smiles. It looks even better in person!

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Hope things improve soon.

Nice Chris…. Mike had a few screamers and this one definitely qualifies. Beautiful rifle
Good golly! That is a stunner!
Oh my goodness! What a great piece!
Holy smokes that is one nice WOK Gew98.

Thanks Paul! There's so much mystery around this maker, I think it adds to the allure.

I also am immensely grateful that Mike chose this approach. A couple other guys here have done that as well and it's much appreciated. I can promise that when the time comes, I plan to do the same when finding future caretakers.

This rifle resided in my collection at one time. Nice to see an old friend again.
The collecting world truly is a small one. Thanks for keeping it in great shape during your time with it!

Truly an outstanding Gew, even if it weren't so rare. And i was very lucky to be able to look it over in person last month.
Chris, i added your photos to the reference.
