Repo Field Gear Collector
Picked this up a while back off günbroker and just now snapped some quick pictures before the rain. I actually won the auction standing outside the last Tulsa show BSing Mausers with my friend BowieTX who’s a cool dude. I met another forum member at the show too when I stopped to look at a K98 stock on a table and I’ll be damned if I can’t remember his handle! Anyway, the rifle is pretty standard fare except for the code variation. It’s a bolt m/m but what are you gonna do, it’s the only one I’ve had a chance to buy in the last 17 years so I wasn’t going to pass it up, I had to have it! The rifle looks like it spent some time on a wall as the left side of the stock is slightly lighter, in hand especially. It has a sintered band so that was a plus as I really like them. Here are some pictures.

That's a really nice one Clay. Even if there aren't any e/4 parts on it.

Whats cool is you can see the remnants of the block "CE" behind the script. These odd hand stamp (script) receivers are a by-product of over polishing the receiver, typical Sauer.

Also, could be lighter from having a sling on it, I have some similar.

Thanks Mike. I was looking so closely at the flaws/machined surfaces in photo #10 that I didn't really see that but it sure is there.

Interesting how they almost polished the CE right out of it but ended up with a horrible surface finish still. It looks very crudely ground. Is that typical of these or are they usually a lot more smooth like a typical Sauer finish?

I think it was a good decision, congrats to your new Sauer! If you plan to disassemble the rifle, please take a photo of the laminate supplier and stock completion date code, you can find them in the barrel channel.

@jbmauser
The other CE44 hand stamp receivers which I know look similar like this one and the CE43 hand stamp receivers are more smooth.

Some of these are on Walther receivers and the finishing is different. A lot of late Sauers on Feima receivers have that same mild chatter look, it’s just not always evident in pictures. It looks like a quick single pass with a surface grinding machine is all, over the as received surface condition from Feima. A look at the MO finished Feima receivers where they didn’t bother with surface grinding like Sauer will give a true look at them. I think you even have one of those right!?

Here’s a few others showing different combinations of hand stamping stuff.

Very cool variations guys! There’s also the different font “44” in your book, neat rifles. Does anyone have pictures of the MO finished example that wasn’t surface ground? It looks like the pictures in the sticky disappeared.

..my MO finished Feima ce43 receiver looks similar.

Some of this is so borderline absurd I really wonder what kind of chaos it was like at that time in the Reich. Feima 'we're not building rifles anymore but hey JPS here's some receivers'.. JPS 'no way we can build that many, hey MO you take them'. :googlie

Really interesting variants I'd not seen before. Script c with block e 44 with both 4s being different. bcd4 with a different font 3 added. Quite unusual for sure.
