Hello.

I have a 1909 Spandau 98a which is unit marked, 3. H. 4. 97. It was formerly my Uncle's for many years, he had told me it was marked to the 3rd Hussar Regiment (interestingly, Hasso Von Mantuefel's former unit....the Regiment, anyway). Hopefully that is all correct.

What is the meaning of the 4. 97. part? I assume Company (or Squadron?)

Paul, I know you have this one in your database already, Serial number 427a.

Hello,

Loewe is right. The 4. marks the "Eskadron" (eng. squadron) number and the 97. is for the individual weapon number in this squadron.

3. H. 4. 97.

Hussar-regiment (named "von Zieten") No. 3, 4th squadron, weapon No. 97. Founded in 1730 and stationed in Rathenow, Brandenburg.
This was the oldest hussar-regiment in the prussian army.

With kind regards

Vincent

Jeff, About 6 of them, very close up. If you have done more recently, do show it.

I will do that, Paul. Those pics you have were not made by a "collector" type, it was a photographer friend of my uncle's. I'll do a set, I have been meaning to anyway.

Jeff

Yes, they were from 2006, maybe when you were in Iraq, I believe you told me then someone else took the pictures. You also shared them with the yahoo group we were apart of then.
