SS tanker unit deaths head Luger

It’s a ww1 flamethrower unit marking. Jeez. Idjit.

It would be awesome to get some of the Luger experts over here to debate this subject with us. They don't believe these are real (nor SS K98ks). I think it sold for a pretty good price considering what it is.

Very surprised Legacy would sell this pistol. Has been enhanced even without the deaths heads. Grips are replacements for the wear on the frame

I'm re-evaluating my opinion of legacy

So you think that the deaths head is fake? And how can you tell the grips are replacements?

The dark stains on the grips matches up with the blemishes on the rear strap, so I don't expect they were replaced. At least not anytime recently.

Well Mr darnell
Itching to take another shot at me

I did not say the death head was fake or real
For photos posted it appears/appeared to be used while the grips appear to be in reasonably good shape for a pistol made in 1917 and reissued

Have a good day

No thank you. Georg did a great job presenting it at Jan Stills forum so it’s been done. Is better to let them believe what they believe - someday, maybe soon, a younger more inquisitive group of guys is going to take over and renew the Luger collecting world and bring it into the 21st century. It happened to 98k collecting a while back and will happen there too.

I was legitimately wanting to know what issues you had with the pistol. If there is something specific you see then please let us know.

As for taking “a shot at you?” You are consistently rude and condescending to other members (new members specifically). So it’s not so much taking a shot at you as calling you out for your antics.

I'm by no means a "Luger guy", but the photos of that gun suggest a large percentage of seemingly original rust-blue, and matching numbers where visible. Given the trends I've observed, I would say that a price tag of $2K wouldn't be unreasonable, despite the mismatched mag. It doesn't appear to have been obviously messed with, and perhaps the buyer wanted it bad enough to spend three grand.

Am I missing something?

Richie

Funny how all of them follow the rule, Lazy S Deaths Head and commerial Suhl fire proof, replacement barrel or other replacement parts ... but yeah, sure those need to be WWI flamethrower pistols :googlie

Okay, I'm having a little trouble sifting through the sarcasm in this thread. If this is indeed an SS-marked P08, with externally matching numbers and what appears to be very good original finish, wouldn't it be worth $3K?

Just trying to learn something new...

Richie

EDIT: Just re-read the thread carefully, and finally caught up to the sarcasm. Never mind.

Not to ad to the drama, but id have to agree. Ive seen sprat in a bad mood quite a bit here in this last year! But in all seriousness, its not a great idea to alienate future collectors. Cant we all just get along?

Oh never mind, you beat me to it. I'll drag up my thread on the luger board and post this pistol pointing out the commercial firing proof and the identical deaths head, just to upset a few Luger collectors. I hope the future collectors will appreciate my sacrifice.

Some better pics of the WWI Flammpanzer pistol. Grips are one off (75) but font looks right.
