SS tanker unit deaths head Luger

I just have to say that after reading that thread on the luger forum it is clear that the "Luger Establishment" is lost. They are foolish men with silly ideas (The SS branded their items because it looked cool????)and there is no sense in trying to change their minds. If Luger collecting is going to progress and flourish into the future then a new forum and group of collectors needs to be formed. Almost like a type of Luger rebellion.

So like a union of insurgents?

Admittedly, I'm not a "Luger guy" -- my only dedicated reference volume is Datig's 5th revised edition of The Luger Pistol. But even in that book, Fred presents a decent (albiet limited) case for these being termed "08/14 Type SS".

I wonder why there's so much dissent? Seems fairly cut-and-dried to me...

Again I feel it goes back to if you can tell the fake from real call them all fake to save yourselves the embarrassment .. Knowing they are post Imperial build seems easy enough..

The amount of fake DH k98k's is ten fold higher than fake DH lugers and these luger seem to go reasonable cause most of the buying public thinks they are all fake or flamethrower tanker pistols..

But for us knowledgeable collectors that do our proper research that might be a good thing for us. Because we can score some nice Lugers for well under what they're worth.

Does it mean we're going to have her own Luger Club here now Mike! If that's the case you're going to have to give us all nicknames again!

There’s gonna be a club here.....

I'll be honest Dave been reading that thread over the past few days and man are they pissed over there. They just won't believe these are even real. Even when there is picture proof of the death head marked holsters. Saying those are all Post war? Well can you explain the pictures then. Seems like that Wlim guy wants factory written evidence. I'll be honest, someone could find one of these SS rework Lugers with capture papers. And with evidence that is was taken from an SS officer from Dachau concentration camp. And he still wouldn't believe it!

Despite mountains of evidence to the contrary, there are people who still believe that Oswald shot Kennedy with a Tasco-topped Carcano, that a lone right-wing nut blew up the Murrah building with fertilizer, that Building 7 collapsed out of sympathy for the Towers, that "global warming" is real, and that anyone who believes otherwise is nuts.

This thread has been most enlightening, I'm really glad that I found this forum!

Read everything from the beginning .. it was not really funny at all to be the only one with only very little posts and little knowledge on Lugers to argue with Luger book authors on a symbol. I was close to give up several times. Happy to see others joining me. But still a long way to go.

Going to get myself now a copy of the book that Vlim wrote and see if everything he wrote is only based upon documents, or if there are theories in there as well.

I got a feeling they're probably going to lock this thread. I guess that super moderator doesn't like you guys questioning his authority and observations on these. But I believe we'll come to the conclusions on this one day. And luckily for some of us we may be able to score some pretty cool pistols for well under what they're truly worth.

Yesterday another member opened a poll where users could vote if they think SS DH Lugers are real or not. Last thing I saw was 7 for original and 7 for not. It either somehow disappeared or was moved in an area which I cannot access or cannot find it.

Had considered saving all pages in case the Admin will remove my thread as well. "Only" locking would make it look much worse than removing it.

It’s a waste of time posting there, I’ve abandoned ship. I wasn’t looking to argue, I just wanted clarification on a specific point and it was shown the answer at the end. I’m content knowing the truth about it if they don’t.

Simpson’s had one of these about 2 years ago that I think was probably correct from the threads here. I was way to new to all of this to pull the trigger on a purchase at the time. I have followed the threads here and over on the Luger forum.... I would like to find a good one for my safe some day, neat pistols

Less than a year ago I posted my pistol not only on the Lugerforums, but also in here. Guess what, the suggestions that it is WWI also came in this forum here: https://www.k98kforum.com/showthread.php?39874-Deaths-Head-Luger-08

It does help now knowing there are a few more on a forum that accept these as potentially original SS reworked Luger pistols, but don't feel upset because two years ago you passed on one of these, because two years ago I guess most in here would had told you the same as on the Lugerforums either.

I’m farrrrrr from a Luger expert and doubly less of an SS expert so I admit I likely would’ve passed on one of these, unless it was so cheap it would’ve been worth the gamble...

I somehow missed when this thread was moved. Found it by searching for my own old posts. Then tried to access the forum it was posted in - requires a password that I don't have. Can anyone help?

Just an incorrect setting, the forum has no password. You posted in this thread, so?
