SSZZA4 Rifle VZ24 Receiver

This is my friends gun. Interesting rifle. Appears to be sporterized SSZZA4 rifle with a VZ24 receiver. An early gun with SSZZA4 on right side of barrel. His great grandfather owned the rifle. We don’t know where he got it. Interested in opinions. Thanks for any comments. Too bad it was sporterized. I’m away from home, so I don’t have my books.

I wonder if that was the original stock. Not sure if the serial number would be in the stock channel.
He did not look in the stock for number. We were not thinking of that as it is basically a ruined stock. I told him he should replace it. I’m guessing he will leave it as is, because it was his great grandfather who owned it and my friend is not a collector. So, the stock did not bother him.

Nice! I had one like this at one point and foolishly sold it around 2003. I bet someone on here has it. It had a sporterized stock as in the pics but I had put it in a military stock and included the sporter stock. Here's the one I had. Pics are horrible because it was 2003 and my camera was not so hot.

To my knowledge (and the book from Mike and Bruce) many of the early SSZZA4 rifles were based on Vz.24 receivers, they have several of those in their book as well.

Once at a gunshow I even had a Vz.24 receiver based K98k rifle in hands which had a Single Rune stamped on the receiver as well. It was all matching and aside of a lighly sanded stock really mint. Too bad it had been promised to someone else already, otherwise I would had taken it home.

I agree with mauser99 - the rifle can certainly be saved as the metal hasn't been touched and I certainly think it is worth saving. It will never be 100% correct, but it can certainly look much better!!

Thanks guys for all the comments. I asked my friend if he would sell it to me. So far he and his brother would not sell it. If they ever do I’ll offer it here to the forum
