Strange CE 41.... looking for answers

Hey Guys,

I picked up a CE 41 barreled receiver with matching triggerguard assembly from a fellow member on gunboards.com a few weeks ago.

The right side receiver has a E/211 proof over an asterisk with 2 E/37 proofs to the above right. This was discussed on gunboards with a fellow member and the consensus is that this was a once rejected receiver that was routed to JP Sauer later on when the issue was fixed.

The thing that I didnt know until I received it in hand, was that the rear sight base is stamped with "cul" and a single WaA883 proof. I have my suspicions that this sight base isnt original to the rifle (possible torch bluing discoloration) but with Sauer being such an oddball assembler...I just want to make sure what the deal is. I have not seen such a stamped and proofed rear sight base. Is it legit on its own or some kind of fantasy stamping? Can anybody shed some light on these 2 things?

The bore is excellent and the price was fair, so not a loss IMO.

cul base

The rear base is not a fantasy but legit contract part by Ernst Pack (cul).
Whether or not is original to action is up to speculation but those images
dont give me a warm fuzzy feeling with the damage to the leaf retaining ears
and heat discoloration to the tube.

Thanks Bruce,

That's the way I feel, that the base was replaced with this one for some reason. Just doesn't seem right but at least it's a legit base that I've not seen before. Any idea on which manufacturers/assemblers would most likely subcontract these "cul" bases?

Also, what's the deal with the receiver, was it a rejected Bosigwalde receiver that was sent to Sauer?

E. Pack sleeves are very hard to find, only seen three, Bruce had one a year or so back on a rifle, KenH another. I think they are ordnance supplied parts, but not enough have been found to determine if they were supplied to assemblers like Sauer & Gustloff.

Show more of the parts that you believe are original, or that are potentially original.

Like simson I have only seen 12 (now 13) CUL marked rear sight barrel sleeves. they are not seen often. of the 12, 8 have been sold for parts. 1 seen on a DUV 42, 2 (now) seen on CE41/42, 2 seen BCD41/42.

later
