Hi ,
Question , looking at a Turk 1887 that is missing :

Rear sight slider
Clearing rod
Middle band spring (original appears snapped)

Would these parts be easy to source ?

Good luck. I've been in the market for an 1887 for a couple of years and have passed on a couple because of missing parts. If you look long enough you might be able to find something, but they are uncommon and expensive.

In the last five years I've seen a stock (which I'm still kicking myself for not buying just to have) and a bolt.

Is this the one on a certain auction site with the jacked up stock?

edit: I ask because they're uncommon enough that you'll spot the same one cropping up a lot, and I think I've passed on that particular one 4 or 5 times now.

The real question is whether you could modify some Gew71/84 parts to work. The cleaning rod is a no go, but I'd look long and hard into if you could make the middle band spring and slider work.

edit: honestly, this is one of those guns where I think you just need to make peace with yourself that it's a $2000+ rifle and get a complete one, and then put out feelers to that effect. At least that's where I've landed.

Thanks , no there was one in the U.K with nails in the stock (holding it together) and passed on that , perhaps that's the one you mean ?
The one I am looking at is a different one without being messed with.

Would a Kropatschek rod work ?

I would have to do some more research, but the rear sight slider and middle band spring should be the same as the 71/84. I don't own an 1887 so I don't have one to confirm that.

In situations like this where people ask if parts are easy to find, Yein is the best answer I can give. If you have a dump truck of money, I can find (or make) you anything.

Thanks - and that is nice to know. The band spring I could probably repair thinking about it.

Nah the one I thought you might be sniffing at is one on gunbroker sitting at $1200 with a carved up stock and missing rod. A few other problems. If I’d bought that stock years ago I might have tackled it as a restoration but at this point I’d rather pay the premium for a complete rifle.

No idea what the English market is like on these.
