turret mounts

Hello all,

I am getting ready to take the plunge and do the vintage scope and I think turret mounts on my RC k98, and I was wondering what you all though about Accumount's quality?? I know the fella in Europe is super great but I don't have two arms, a kidney and left nutt to spend, so something more reasonable will have to do.

Will a Zeiss Zielsechs or Zeiss Zelachts fit with low turret mounts or should I just to the high?

Thank you.

Mike

For the money I think they're nice mounts. They include shims if you want to go 30mm tube dia instead of wartime 26. The only issue I had with my setup was the supplied drill bit was too small for the tap provided. In the end, got er done... I used a Chinese ZF39 for starters..

The difference between high and low is just a few MM's.. Go high for a late war build...

No fan of Accumounts.

Used their LSR stuff for a non representative shooter.

It locks up fine but the screws for the rings are incredibly cheap(soft), and expensive (5 bucks a pop)when you need to replace them.

Interchageability of mounts between bases is sketchy @ best...if you plan to have a selection of readily mounted scope powers for one gun you damn well better own a file...and know how to use it.

Never used their Turret stuff so I cannot comment...all of that being said the old addage holds true...you get what you pay for with most things.

Problem is that your options are limited.....not a lot of of makers to choose from ...and you a have a budget to work with...so you will just have to do what you can do and live with the limitations and irritations, but in the end it will serve your purposes and that is the main thing.

DAve was right on no zielachts...but if you can pick one up cheap ,grab it, because it helps immensely when shooting past 300 yds. Will be a cinch to swap out scopes since you are using split rings.

Good luck.

mounts needed

Thanks fellas, on e-bay I have seen various turret mounts advertised, some from China, some from Australia, some from Accumounts, and some from Europe. I do want the best for the buck.

Well the best mounts would be those made by Robert Spielauer of k98k.com. They're expensive, but by far the best representation of real turret mounts. I sadly think he's finally retired though.

Anybody ever try mounts from this website?

aassniper98.com

Regards, Al

I had a set of mounts that were for a GEW 98 sniper...workmanship seemed good enough..unfortunately the bolt pattern did not match the drill pattern on my gun so I sold them...Vaughn 99 has some experience with them.

High Turret

Ive got an original scope for sale with Roberts rings, missing the lever which Dave is working on getting from Robert,,nice rig if you can find his bases.

Turret Scopes

Here are the photos, on the top BMJ #67170 reportedly serialed to either hi or low turret model snipers, underneath is a Cad #46551 with Spielauer mounts. Optics are crystal clear. These scopes have scope poohbah approval! Robert refinished the scope with mounts during assembly process

If your just looking for a mock sniper on a RC98, for shooting purposes and you really don't want to break the bank, have you considered using a Short Side Rail, rather than the Turret Mount?

Although a wonderful scope mount, the high Turret requires a high degree of skill to install, as well as labor. The High Turret requires drilling and taping, as well as, soldering the bases of the mount to the receiver. The rings (if done correctly) should be solder to the scope, which requires the scope be stripped to an empty tube and then the rings (which are closed solid) be spaced to fit the location of the base. After correctly spacing the rings onto the tube they should be soldered. When this is done the scope can be put back together. However, a short cut is used by many by only removing the front and back bells of the scope and then after spacing the scope correctly J.B. welding the rings to the scope. Since your building a mock sniper, the Turret mount general limits the use of some German made scopes which have focus rings because they many not fit due to the location of the rings. This may force you to have to purchase a more $$$ scope that will fit.

whereas, the short side rail, does require the wood stock to be cut to fit the mount. The receiver must be drilled and tapped and then the base attached into the drilled holes. The rings on a short side rail are split and screw together and almost all 26mm German scopes will fit without any issues.

The only reason I'm pointing this out is because your post suggest you might want to try your build on a more limited budget and you might not be fully aware of the costs involved with mounting a High turret.

PS there's nothing wrong with a short side rail and they were used until the very end.

super nice scopes

Wow, looks very good. But missing bases, and I have just received my set of Accumounts, I just don't have the funds to buy another set of mounts. The real war time scope would be better used on restoring a real sniper rifle rather then a RC build up.

Thanks though.

Mike

Looking forward to seeing you finish your build. I just got into some G33/40's. I've always loved the mountain carbines but the money while raising a family threw purchasing one under the bus...

Not necessary if you have split rings...which he does. The repops are made that way to make it more convient for the guy wanting to build an afforable and less skilled installation .Compression does the job required of solder...But yes...you will need to solder the bases... some have epoxied and had good results...but I am a solder guy.

scope needed

the the whole out fit is over at the gunsmith for the work to be performed, but it may take him several weeks, at he will be attending the Reno show and he runs a gun shop as well, limited on time.

Hi,
I enjoy shooting my R/C LSR but I could not cope with the 4x scope I had on, no consistent groupings so I ditched the Pecar and fitted a Leupold now I get 1inch groups makes me feel so much better, sure if a better scope had been available to a ww2 sniper they would have done it too.
