Two K98,s came into the shop in town today. One is a Bolt matching duffel cut with a strange Stock?? Very skinny .Sanded ???

Second one is very ruff. story is it was dug up at battlefield??? I find this hard to believe as it seems all the numbers don't match? it also has the serial number on the side of Stock that tells me it is a Russian capture. I am thinking it was in a barn and was wet and termite eaten?? Dealer believes it is a battle field pickup?? Am I wrong at telling him if it was a pick up all the numbers would match.

Buy the L-block byf44 which is restorable (but not cheaply), and leave the pits for the shop owner to peddle to someone else...

The dual tone byf would make for a nice restoration. Stock is sanded to death and front band has been cut in half for some reason. What kind of money were they asking?
The relic? who knows. Definitely neglected somewhere.

If you pass on the L block byf 44 I would love to get in contact with this shop. I have been looking for a rifle exactly like this to drop into my armorers spare stock for a while.

I ended up grabbing the L Block and a 1917 Gew 98. Paid $1200 for the pair. I will take them down tonight and Photo document the L block here and the Gew on the Imperial Forum. The BYF 44 stock is all messed up. Tons of sanding, Cut short and missing the front wood from the cut. appears to be all matching except the safety lever is Blued and Un Numbered??

Nice pair of rifles. Wish something like that would show up in one of my local shops. Damn NJ is a complete dead zone when it comes to collecting any kind of mauser :(

Why..?

They looking to whittle the stock for figurines and use the barrled action for a tomato stake.?

Gew 98 looks like a SCW

That Gew 98 has the MP8 cartouche, typical of aid provided during the Spanish Civil War. Very cool.
