Hi
Got this private purchased KS98 from D.O.V. long time ago.
D.O.V. means Deutscher Offiziers Verein or German Officers Association, and was a sort of department store for officers, in Berlin.
German officers were self-suppliers.
What do you think of the "Kaiserliche Schutztruppe" markings? Added later as a reminder, or used in Africa?
The handle of the bayonet is significantly shorter than that of the regular piece, you can see compared to a Bavarian KS98.
But it is fully functional. The blade and the hilt are thicker than the original. Gripscales are made of wood.

The marking is possible explanation, that You wrote, the shorter handle is not so important , important is possibility to attach a Mauser adapter as by KS98 there is no barell ring, so few mm on lenght is not so important, i assume too its a Extra piece when not proofed, so maybe the weight is similar when thicker blade but shorter handle, difference is in production as the handle is already with crossguard made. Answer would be under grips, is one piece cast or blade is separate and riveted into handle as typical Extra bayonet.

Stunning bayonets , the KS isnt linked to DSWA (the character sets are different) and only erfurt/horster were supplied , i recall Cavalry School used K.S. (i will check my books)
