Vulcanfibre Helmet?

Unlikely, but interesting thought. My friend bought this in Lithuania; he was told it was an air defense helmet made of a synthetic material, not metal. I kind of think he got scammed, but I don't know much, if anything, about WWII helmets. Any thoughts?

Welcome Mantis. That's interesting. I know there were vulcan fibre officer type parade helmets. I know the civil defense and air warden helmets (i.e. Luftschutze) were metal.

Yes, there were parade or officers helmets made of a material known as VulcanFiber. However, the pictured helmet is probably not one of these parade helmets. These gray toned "fiber" helmets are not uncommon which lends credence to the theory that they were secondary issue for factory workers, etc, during air raids. For example, one sees light metal air raid helmets not of the typical "gladiator" luftshutz style with various German company emblems. Thanks for posting.

The helmet is a East German fire helmet. Dates early 1960's
