Picked up this bayonet at a pawn shop. It seemed pretty interesting. Any help with the unit mark or any more info would be great. Not in best shape but i liked it.

You have a rare maker bayonet, one of the most difficult of this type to get.
 
The frog looks little strange, most probably a repair? or the front pouch was replaced? from these pictures hard to say, teoretically a 19 Infantry Regiment marking on backside. On S84/98 bayonet is missing the locking nut.b.r.Andy

I think that it is a condition/storage issue. I think it has not been properly stored and the leather is coming apart. I have included extra pictures. I am unfamiliar with the metal stud in the middle of the frog?

Thanks for everyone's help. This is WAY out of my league, but all of my other frogs have never had any writing on it so I figured why not.

So I guess I need a rifle for it now....

Edit: I keep looking online trying to find another unit mark like this, can not seem to. Any advice on where to look or ask?

So now I have more questions, is this an s14 bayonet?

Where could I find a locking nut for this?
 
I doubt it is an S14, they are not cyphered and dated typically, nor do they have the full maker name, nor Herder markings. Doesn't look long enough anyway... But, I have not seen as much as CB has, - either way finding a release button for it will be difficult, they rarely are interchangeable, at least in my experience. Some tinkering would probably work if you could find a suitable replacement, but forget finding a replacement that will work perfectly.

I like the bayonet, along with August Kupper this is about as hard a maker-date to locate, very expensive if flawless.
 
Pommel looks like an S14. What is overall length and blade length? - that will tell the tale.

19 J.R. = 19th Infantry; J substitutes for I to avoid confusion with Roman numeral I. AFAIK no Jäger regiments in WWI, only battalions; in 1914 there were 15 Prussian and 2 Bavarian so 19 is impossible unless more were raised later. J. Noll may have more precise information on wartime added formations.
 
The frog could be made from a dress one, what for material are the rivets?, i personally dont like the rivets attachment they are not in same high when You look to first frog picture,and the stitching is strange, same as the marking in 100 year old leather is too crisp.Note the sewing machine marking on side of leather. But maybe i am wrong.
The pommel looks like a normal S84/98nA. 19JR is correct Infantry Regiment.
 
Excuse my lack of proper bayonet terminology but the blade is 10 inches and the handle is 5 and a quarter. I think the scabbard has damaged the blade some.

Andy, i will take better pictures in the natural light tomorrow. The leather looks normal to me and is literally falling apart. I got this at a pawn shop for nothing so I doubt someone is messing with me. I will get better pictures so you can see.
 
Remember guys that the Odeon-Werke S84/98nA pieces do resemble the S14 Type 1, especially with their somewhat rounded pommel. Some S14 have also been encountered with period blade shortening to S84/98nA dimensions. In this case however as Loewe noted, no S14 have been recorded by Friedr. Herder and those pieces made by Odeon-Werke are only maker marked Odeon. Many S14 are however observed with a single Fraktur inspection stampings usually located at the blade spine or ricasso. As already stated what we have here is dual maker S84/98nA finished and assembled by Herder on a blade blank produced by Odeon-Werke.
