1911 WMO Württembergische Gewehr 98

I checked Jon's Mauser Archive and came up with the following production numbers for Württemberg-specific Gew98s:

1911: 4,500 pieces
1912: 5,000 pieces
1913: 5,000 pieces

So a total of 14,500 pre-war, unless some were ordered in early 14 as well. These clearly had a low survival rate too. Cyrus and I recall seeing a 1901 dated Württembergische Gew98, though maybe this was some sort of trials rifle?

What a treasure of a rifle. Congratulations, Chris.

The wurttemberg antler is still used today as a proofmark by the proof office in the city of Ulm in modern day Baden-Württemberg.

With kind regards

Vincent

Thanks Vincent, it's cool the symbol continues to survive, it's unique. I recall seeing it on a few other items as a property mark from Württemberg too. I have a Walther model 4 holster with it.

There may be reports but in the database (actual observations) these two (three) are only known to me

Thanks Paul! I know you are a busy man these days, so I appreciate you posting the pics!

Correct me if I’m wrong but this appears to be one also: https://www.morphyauctions.com/jamesdjulia/item/1361-369/
Sure looks it to me Marc. People clearly knew what it was when they were bidding too. That's big $$ for back then!
Another awesome rifle Chris!
Thanks as always!
