Is that a known rebuild mark? Asking because I've got a similar mark (1 instead of a 3) in the same spot on at least one rifle, and I think two but I'd have to take one apart. The one I'm sure of is a MWO Gew98 that went through at least Koblenz based on the stock rebuild marks.View attachment 442036
I did a pretty thorough check and all I turned up additionally was the "3" on the trigger guard. Nothing on the bayonet lug or anywhere else.
The best thesis here is that these numbers were a Bavarian thing and show up on rebuilds. Maybe is a way to keep things straight as the rifles were rebuilt. They were stamped on both new and salvaged parts. Is that a known rebuild mark? Neat, thanks. The best thesis here is that these numbers were a Bavarian thing and show up on rebuilds. Maybe is a way to keep things straight as the rifles were rebuilt. They were stamped on both new and salvaged parts.
It sounds like your rifle passed through a Bavarian Depot at one point or another either before or after Konlenz.. Bavarian reworks rarely marked on the butt plate so you have to look at traits to really identify one.
