Been some time since i had to do it, but last time i removed whitening i covered the receiver in Ballistol, let it soak in, then scraped it out with a toothpick. Same way i clean out screw head slots and the markings on rear sight bases.

Looks much better without the white. Congrats on finding a good Kar and thanks for the photos, i added it to the reference.

The receiver was definitely cleaned, to an obnoxious and value diminishing degree, so touched up bands would not surprise me, though i also can not tell from the photos. If the price were to reflect it being a cleaned up bolt mismatch, then it would be worth getting. 1905 is a harder year than...

Added to the study; third lowest for 1917. By now it's been confirmed that Dresden started serial numbers over for each year, but it is still nice to see another that falls into the pattern, like this one. As for the bolt, the fireproof and acceptance is notoriously weak on Dresdens, hard to say...

Without a fireproof a complete armorers bolt is probably $200. As Chris mentioned they were mostly cobbled together stateside. One that was assembled wartime with a fireproof would be worth a little more.

Not nickel, just worn. Bet under the wood there’s bluing. Erfurt rework, that’s neat.

Looks like the ball of the bolt was cold blued on the end, it may not be an original sniper bolt. The safety is also a replacement, note the different finish. Could very well have been cobbled together then renumbered. Value wise, it’s probably not worth much to a collector, maybe a shooter...
