Gew 98 1914 Amberg combat warhorse

Jordan picked up a special gewehr here. Congrats on it and the outstanding pics!

    Gewehr 98 headspace issue? Extractor?

It's a Czech bolt & since it's not original to the rifle, checking the headspace prior to shooting it would be wise....

    1909 Kar 98 Erfurt

The stock is not original matching. Many more pics are required to determine value.

    1902 DWM Naval Gew98

Jordan, this was a great pickup, & for a very, very good price. Congrats & thanks for sharing the pics.

Not a new Gew 98 but.....

Great that you finally snagged this Jeff. A rare piece for sure.

    An Unlikely Combination

Paul is correct, it's hard to get the rare stock & do the reverse restoration. I picked this up years ago, I even have an extra KM G98 bolt, but never any luck on finding that early DWM G98 naval receiver/barrel.

    GEW 98 Commercial 1902

That's a keeper, much nicer condition than mine. Thanks for sharing the pics.

    Gew 98 Woven Canvas Sling

Yes, that's a nice clean one, & the unit marking is a big plus. I've got 3 or 4, as I recall one is maker marked/dated, but none clean like yours. Thanks for sharing the pics...

    Interesing WW1 German pictures.

In reality, probably not. Swapping bolts gets us into potential headspace issues, & that's something they would choose to avoid, just as we would now...

Gew 98 DWM 1914 combat warhorse

A fine, un messed with, rare maker/date gewehr, and with a dated, original sling. A great pickup, I can't think of a better caretaker than you for this one. You just need a good lid to compliment it & you're good to go.

    Lets talk SS Deaths Heads

    Here's my m/m one for reference, a converted G98.

    1915 Amberg Gew. 98

A nice honest gewehr, good pickup. The sling looks odd at the quick release buckle. How about better pics of that area, without that leather keeper that doesn't belong with it.

Question for those Gew 98 serial number scolars

Wolfgang (& Absolut), thanks for your input on this gewehr.

Question for those Gew 98 serial number scolars

"fake" is a pretty large word to toss around, similar to "mint" I've seen occasionally on the site. I note what Absolut points out regarding the rear base, and possibly is a replacement, as is the scope. If the scope was #'d to the rifle then that would raise suspicions, but it's not. Most all...

Question for those Gew 98 serial number scolars

Jeff's rifle is CB's old rifle. I'm glad he's the new caretaker.

    DWM assembly numbers

I've been following this thread and find it very interesting & informative. Just curious, were the blued parts such as both front & rear bands serial #'d after bluing?

    Danzig 1912/15 Gew98

I like it, good pickup with that unique date. Congrats & thanks for sharing the pics.

Picked this up today at the MVACA show How did I do?

"the half shaft nib on end of flag was broken cleanly off" What in the world are you talking about, lol

    1917 Simson with dustcover

imho, I'd get some refund $$$$ and keep it. Very clear proofs for beech, action cover is an add on & doesn't go well with it (sell it), sling isn't that great a shape & doesn't go well with it (sell it too). Get some CA glue , extra thin, for the crack.
