Congratulations, Chris. What a rare piece and in such a nice condition. Only 1500 of those handy rifles were made. Even though i only collect prussian stuff i really do love those needle guns from the other small states. Thanks for sharing and posting it here. Cheers, Vincent

    M74: The last Dreyse

Chris, this is another beautiful needle rifle you have here. Congratulations! Even though i do not collect the non-prussian dreyse guns, they are indeed a very interesting and often overlooked field of collecting. There are only a few things i know about your rifle. M57 Dreyse Needle Carbine

This mystery should be solved! Your unit marking indicates the second wurttemberg mounted regiment "2. Reiter-Regiment Kronprinz Friedrich" or "2. Württembergisches Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 26" as it was known from 1871 onwards. I didnt know that before 1870 wurttemberg just had mounted "Reiter"...

    Interesting unit markings

Germany stopped using the R. R. for reserve infantry regiment in 1897 and simply replaced it with a single R. Thats why the "double" R. R. unit marking can only be found on pre 1898 weapons. With kind regards Vincent

    M57 Dreyse Needle Carbine

What a beautiful carbine thanks for presenting it with such great pictures! Regarding the unit marking. There were only two types of units equipped with these needle carbines. Prussian Hussars and dragoons. So it was either used by the 2. hussar regiment, 5th squadron, 61st carbine or the 2...

G98 Stock dug up from South Africa

Yes. The stock is from a Schutztruppengewehr 98, one can still see the cut out for the turned down bolt handle. The unit marking reads as Kaiserliche Schutztruppe, weapon no. 2537 and this indicates Deutsch-Süd-West-Afrika. With kind regards Vincent

    Interesting unit markings

Hello everybody, i would like to open a thread covering unit markings of the imperial german era. Unit markings from rifles, bayonets or other equipment are one of the things making german arms so interesting (to me at least) and there are so many fascinating and rare unit markings already...

Research project: Gew98 Kaiserliche Marine contracts

I think you are right. A very large part of the S98 old pattern bayonets from the imperial navy are from this manufacturer. They also feature no army property stamp on the back of the blade. This shows that they were directly ordered and produced for the navy. I also took the liberty to...
