sling

It's a decent repro. Sorry..There is a really good sling thread on the gun-boards k98 section if you want to learn how to spot a good sling..

Are you really sure of what you say ? It is very important because I exchanged it with a german ww1 bayonet.... So if it is a fake one I have to send it back and take my bayonet...

It's an Austrian Stg.58 postwar sling with an extra stud hole added and a fake WaA214 popped on it. The keeper (frosch) is postwar. These slings are longer (at 55" or so) than an original K98k and MP40 sling (both about 47"). Sorry, but I'm positive of this. Sportsman's Guide was selling these for about $9 each I believe. I've bought them for that and unissued condition ones in this shape for around $20. They make great slings for a shooter or reenactor and they are high quality, made in the 1960s. Most still bear the "Stolla Wien" maker oval and you can sometimes see where that has been removed.

Sorry for the short post. but, it was all that was needed...Hammy gave you the long version.....Result is the same...Go read the sling thread I directed you to..

I've handled some of those Stolla Wein slings and they have an identifiable post war keeper and are sometimes even stamped with the year of production.

High quality leather, nice cross-hatching but not WWII issue.

go to www.gunboards.com then go to the k98 section. it's the 6th./ sticky thread down on the list..many good photos ect.. you must be signed on/in to view photos just like here. The sign on is the same process..give it a try.

BSW, it would have been used by the Austrian postwar army for whatever it would fit on with that button stud arrangement I reckon, which is about everything except and slotted K98k stock. I'm sure they used them on MP.40s as well. That is absolutely what that sling is. This one wasn't faked/modified for a K98k so good as they simply added a hole closer to the end. They can be cut to K98k length, trimmed on the end to a point and a hole added in the back and they are perfect size. Again, original Kar.98k and MP.40 slings are 120 cm = 47" and these are around 142 cm = about 55", measured from tip to buckle end.

Here is one that is painted/unissued. I've got a couple of these. I use them on my shooters. They are great high quality slings, just postwar, and I much prefer them to repros, which cost about the same.

Some early frosch had brass studs. That keeper though isn't even very close to looking like a German one though.

Hi, here is the other sling he can give me. I'm sorry for the bad quality of the pictures.
So what do you think about that one ?

Thanks !

He's provided no pics of what needs to be seen to make a call. That's always suspicious. Take pics of the end with the holes, get him to measure it, provide you a pic of the frosch by itself, and have him measure it tip to end.
Regards,
HB

So what do you think about that one ?

This looks like an STG-58 sling with a yugo keeper. It will have two holes in the sling. Check the sling holes for uniformity if there's a third.

Yep, Looy, send the guy this link and tell him to quit screwing around and just give you an original sling and keeper instead of the $15 rubbish he's trying to dump on you, or just return your bayonet.

Ok so you are sure the second sling is also a bad one ? I don't have to ask him more pictures and measures ?

If this second sling is not good I will ask him the bayo of course !

Looking at the adjuster pin on the buckle of the second sling I would have to say it's a $9 postwar Stg. sling too with, as stated, probably a Yugo keeper. Ask for better pics of what I suggested or tell him to send the bayonet back. The guy either a) doesn't know what an original German WW2 K98k sling looks like; or b) is jerking you around trying to get your bayonet for about $15.

I do not know how to thank you Hambone except to tell you just thank you ! You are very kind to deal with it.

Well, I asked the pictures and measures. Then we'll see if it is really a post war.
