Simson Kar98b came home from the 2022 SOS show!

What a stunning rifle! Everything about this find is absolutely great! WuK 30 ies are almost non-existing; every single one I know of is from the Artillerieschule (A.S.)
Congrats!!!

Thanks for sharing! What a day!! :)

Never knew how scarce that bayonet was thank you for the info. Now if only I could find a scabbard for it!

Well, I don't know where "scarce" ends and "rare" begins. I think we can say that if you're looking for WuKs, you won't probably find one all too soon. If you're looking for a WuK 30, you can wait for years (it might pop up on the very next day, though, especially in the times of internet; it's one of the things that makes collecting so interesting!!) But it's unlikely.
Good thing about the WuK is always that the scabbards weren't numbered to the blade.
Good luck!

I agree with T, WuK is next to impossible to get nice and a matching bard (matched unit) is impossible! Some years are easier though, as I recall by 1930 they are extremely scarce, I will check observations and what Bruce wrote in his book as to observations. You might take up the question on the bayonet section also, Lance and a few others probably have better databases on WuK production, I have owned 3-4 over the years, all well used but not too abused, none matching bards, - even loose bards are highly prized.

One good rule of thumb, you see anything WuK in decent shape, buy it if at all possible, these are desirable and truly rare. (especially in nice condition- these were used)

Jordan thats a great addition to your 98b collection . I can say that its even nicer in hand .

Yes I really do appreciate Chris's advice on going after that bayonet when I bought it. It actually sold quite reasonable. Still needs cleaned up a little bit. I just need to soak the blade in basically ballistol oil to remove old surface rust. I don't want to damage the bluing or scratch the blade. Hopefully I'll find a scabbard one day. And thank you Paul for the additional information I do hope I was able to cover the rifle for the research threads.

And Dave thank you for the kind words I still cherish that 98b sold me. Not going anywhere they're both very special pieces in my collection.

Always happy to be a sounding board on such matters! Lol.

Opened a WuK thread, filled out 1930 (only 4-5), but quite a few 1927-1928, too many to list in one shot. AS # units only identified in 1930, but many unit marked bayonets.

It truly is a wonderful thread Paul on these bayonets. Great research too. By the way I hope I was able to cover everything on this rifle. If I missed anything photo specific, please let me know. I know not many 98b rifles that are matching have been posted here. Wanting to cover all the details I can for fellow researchers.

I was busy yesterday but will work on the WuK list tomorrow, - not a huge number so shouldn't take too long, maybe 30-40 altogether.

Great pic Jordan. That machine gunner seems to have a left eye that has suffered an injury. Zoomed in and it appears there is a scar across his cheek coming down from the inside corner of his eye. These guys are also wearing spurs, so Kavallerie? I have buttons from the 13th (WWI and WWII), used the WWI button as my avatar for years

Thank you have another one coming that's neat one as well. Their hard to find, and I always try to be on the lookout for them. Very well could be on the injury on that soldier. He might be a former veteran on the Great War.
