The Annual "Best find of the Year" Thread

Bigdibbs88

"Ach du lieber!"
We have reached the end of 2013 and so I am curious, what is your best find of the year? Does not have to be a K98 or even German but it must be something you found in the past 12 months. Go

Mine is this reworked Amberg. Given to Poland after WW1, rebarreled and reworked. Recaptured by the Germans in WWII and rear sight updated. It is 2x depot marked.....Su27 and Su10 (19?). It was put out of commission with a nasty break to the fore-end which I have not yet repaired.

Mine is a minty, matching, nearly unfired 98k ar43 with almost seventy years of closet lint on it and screws that remain unturned, even today.

Mine would be the bnz45 that I should have in a day or so!

Odd size lam hg, full crude bolt sleeve, etc etc

I'm just as happy about my full phos bcd4 but it was found by other before me, and documented

How to choose?!?!

Well, I know this is a K98 forum but, being that I'm trying to GET my first K98 I figure this is a great place to hang out and get smart. A year ago I wasn't a Mosin Nagant guy either and 15 rifles later...well anyway...

I'm torn. The CHEAPEST deal I got was an original Finnish captured M91/30 for $100 OTD, but I figure that isn't of much interest. The best rare(ish) rifle deal I got was the Finnish M27, that looks like a beaver was sharpening its teeth on it, that I got OTD for $120. Again, looks pretty original like it was picked out of the frozen battlefields of the Winter War. The hands-down best (FINANCIALLY speaking) deal I got was the 1918 Webley Mark VI that hasn't been import marked or shaved for .45ACP for $199 at Gander Mountain.

Hope you like!

Tough call, but I think I like my Polish captured/German recaptured Luftamt build.

Mine is a 1916 Erfurt all matching

Everything is matching which I believe is reasonably rare?

Not really a "find" by any means but my favorite acquisition this year has to be my svw45. Hopefully I'll post it up soon.

I see how it is, the true die hards are waiting to post to make sure they don't find anything in the waning hours of 2013 :googlie

Looks like there have been some great finds this year. Anyone else find anything neat? Gun or otherwise?

Best pistol: Gustloff
Best rifle: M71/84 Schnittmodell
Best coincidental independent and complementary finds: Revolver M83 and Kar 98a both marked to the Grenz Abteilung Laufenburg.

Mine is a Paatz DSM 34 (one of only three seen by mauser99), and a Luftwaffe 1st model officers sword made by David Malsch.

Probably the most complete T99 I have. It came with trainer sling... matched dust cover, staked screws, bakelite muzzle cover, and the vets obituary.

From the vets obit.

"Born in Italy in 1914", he immigrated in 1922 and "Veteran of the US Army where he served in the 34th Regiment and in the Engineers in Pearl Harbor and the islands of Saipan and Okinawa".

It has been a great year collecting wise. However, my top two pickups would be an all matching byf41 Luft rifle and an all matching ce43 rifle. A close 2nd would be a bolt m/m ce41 that came with a flare gun. For me there is just something about Sauer rifles even the bolt m/m examples. Happy New Year to all of you and good collecting.

Could you post some more pics? I just picked up a vet bring back ( grand daughter had it on consignment at a local shop )T99 and don't know anything about them. Mine has a mm bolt and missing bi pod, mum is intact but has one slice through it. I will post pics when I get a chance to take some.
